The Circle of Ceridwen Saga Box Set Books One Three edition by Octavia Randolph Literature Fiction eBooks

Octavia Randolph's saga is reminiscent of the Outlander series. Through Ceridwen, the reader is transported to 871 AD in what will become Great Britain. The Danes have invaded, and her life is full of changes and challenges. I was drawn fully into Ceridwin's life journey as well as the life and times in which the narrative passes. The description of daily life in this century is fascinating and little explored in literature. Ceridwen is a strong and lovely woman who faces each new adventure or incident in her life with resilience and courage. A heroine whose story is worth following.

The Circle of Ceridwen Saga Box Set Books One Three edition by Octavia Randolph Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Choosing a "new" era to write about makes this series particularly interesting to a voracious reader like myself. I can't say that I ever thought much about the Danes--we hear about Vikings, Scot, Irish, French, even Mongols over the years but never the Danes. I loved the complexity of the families and the dynamics of what it took to keep peace other than gold and how long it took. The 9th century wasn't a particularly happy period and compared to cultures in Ireland wasn't particularly educated. All in all I the loved the story line, am reading book five now where there isn't as much violence but the the story is so far so good even if I miss the original characters. I will complete the series.
I did enjoy Books 1 through 3 of The Circle of Ceridwen and may eventually read another in the series but I feel no pressing desire to do so.

It is a period in history with which I am not especially familiar so I found the historical details to be particularly interesting. The style of writing and the dialogue seem to ring true and I accept that the author did a significant amount of research.

The books focus on day to day life and while there is some adventure and uncertainty in the saga, it is really more of a historical narrative. I think the lack of suspense and intense interpersonal conflict in the story makes it less than memorable to me.

It is a worthwhile reading experience, especially for anyone interested in life in this historical setting.
This author, Octavia, writes with such details and depth of feeling that you feel almost immediately like you are in this historical period, living during the time of the Danes in England and Scotland. It is important to note that the details do not weigh you down or make it difficult to read, rather they enhance the story and pull you in to become part of the story itself. I have read books 1-3 and I am looking forward to reading the rest of this great saga.

It is full of history, love, death, destruction and travel to far places. While there is definitely history within the story, the story of Ceriden and all she meets along her travels in these novels will capture your mind and heart.

I highly recommend this saga and I look forward to continuing reading the next 4 books that are available.
There are three books in this saga about a 15 year-old girl named Ceridwen orphaned at a young age and set back in the year 871, during the time of the vikings. She runs away from the prior who is now her custodian only to find herself taken in by a young woman who is on her way to marry a Dane, her village's enemy, to keep the peace for her people. She has many adventures in all three books and it kept my attention most of the time. Some of it was over-explanatory and a bit too descriptive, so I simply skipped over those pages when this happened. On the whole, the book was very good with several twists which will keep any reader occupied. She happens to be very brave and takes it upon herself to do things to help others, which often opens up new problems for her, but in the end unfolds her life. I read it on my iPad, so I don't know the number of pages in each book, but they seemed very long, so they will keep you occupied for a while and was worth the money!
The author offered book one of this saga free, but I had trouble downloading it. (I later found it was showing up as a document and not a book.) In the meantime, I received an email from the author with a link to listen to the first 7 chapters of book one. I was totally hooked. From that point I decided to skip the free book offer and go straight to the boxed set.

I'm happy I did not settle for book one (The Circle of Ceridwen) alone as I might not have felt as generous with my star rating. Books two (Ceridwen of Kilton) and three (The Claiming) pulled the stories together in such a way I couldn't put them down. As soon as I finish this review I am buying books four and five. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Am an old Marine and read 2 or 3 books a month. Of all the books I have read this is right at the top. I was locked into the box set with a great story written by a great story teller. The story will grip you at the start and not let go till the end. I cannot recommend this box set high enough. I will read every thing the Arthur writes in the future. Man or woman, you will truly enjoy reading this. Do yourself a favor and read this great story.
Wonderful story and characters with well thought out personalities based on great research by author. The beginning of story seemed a bit slow for me. As I read on, this is a fabulous story and the characters are as real can be, now can't put the series down, actually losing sleep over thieves books. Read the first three because of referral by author Diana Gabeldon. This writer is of similar caliber, and the historical part fascinating. These years of the Anglo-Saxon, Dane and Viking assaults on the British Isles after the Romans left is brutal with vivid scenes in the book. If you like historical fiction this is a must read. The perspective view from the Danes side, seeing both the villains and antagonists as human who fall in love, long for justice and happiness makes this era come alive. Well done!
